What Temecula Residents Should Know About the Proposed Golden Pacific Powerlink
If you live in Temecula, you may have heard quite a bit of conversation recently about SDG&E’s proposed Golden Pacific Powerlink. With so much information being shared on social media and throughout the community, we wanted to provide a simple overview of what we know right now and, most importantly, where you can go for more detailed information.
What Is the Golden Pacific Powerlink?
SDG&E is proposing a new 500-kV electrical transmission line that would extend from the Imperial Valley area toward Orange County. One of the preliminary routes would travel through portions of the Temecula Valley and South Temecula.
The proposed project is intended to help meet future regional electricity demand and improve energy reliability.
Is the Route Through Temecula Final?
No.
As of September 2026, the project is still in the pre-filing stage with the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC). SDG&E is expected to submit an application to the CPUC, which will begin a formal review process that includes environmental review and opportunities for public participation.
The routes currently being shown are preliminary study corridors. They should not be interpreted as final tower locations, easements or property boundaries.
SDG&E has also identified alternative routes for consideration, including an alternative that would bypass Temecula.
The City of Temecula has formally opposed the proposed route through Temecula. That is the City's stated position; ultimately, the project and potential routes will be evaluated through the CPUC regulatory process.
